There is a good chance you may not have heard about the Moroccan city of Agadir; Casablanca and Marrakech may have quite easily trumped its fame but who is to say that Agadir should not be as famous as its geographical counterparts. Aside from being overwhelmed by the luxuriousness of Agadir hotels while holidaying in the city, you'll be taken aback by the city itself.

The cool waters of the North Atlantic Ocean wash onto the shores of Beach Agadir with the central city's skyline towering majestically over the local terrain. The city's temperate climate is a direct result of its proximity to a large water-mass so that conditions remain fairly similar throughout the year. Its climate makes this a favorable destination throughout the entire duration of the year even during winter months when most countries at this latitude experience large drops in temperature.

Translated into English from Berber, the word 'agadir' refers to a "wall enclosing a town". As the story goes, when the area came under Saadian rule during the 16th century a fortress was built on top of a hill overlooking the bay area. The city started out as a small community thriving off of its local fishing industry which went on to grow into a larger town upon the arrival of Portuguese (and later on French) settlers to become what it is today a modern city and major tourist attraction. Tourists take the time to enlighten themselves about the city's past at museums and historic sites through which guides tours are a frequent activity for many.

'Agadir Kasbah' is a favorite attraction a large building erected at the top of a hill overlooking downtown Agadir. The historical importance of the building is lucid it has existed since the establishment of the town and gave rise to its very name. Visitors of the city show respect to the city's heritage by driving to the top of the hill for a guided tour of the building's remnants and the occasional camel ride. You'll also have a wonderful view of the entire city from the top of the hill. Museums also provide great opportunity for learning; while in Agadir be sure to visit 'Musee de Talborjt', 'Musee Bert Flint' and 'Le Muse de Artes Berberes' among others.
